This set includes the FREAKDUINO-CHIBI base board, battery regulator circuit, 2.4 GHz antenna, bottom mounted battery case that fits two AA batteries, and a set of aluminum standoffs.
This set is an inexpensive way to implement a compact, wireless, battery-powered prototyping platform based on the Arduino. The main board was designed to accomodate this particular battery case because it has solder terminals that can be inserted into the board similar to a through-hole part. The terminals are soldered down which forms a solid electrical connection without the need for any cables or wires. The battery case mounts on the bottom of the board and is also screwed in for mechanical stability.
The set also comes with a set of four 20 mm aluminum standoffs which are just tall enough to clear the battery case and allow the main board to stand flush on any flat surface. The standoffs also can accomodate 3 mm screws so that the system can be firmly attached to a flat surface.
Having the battery case mounted on the bottom of the board allows for a very compact wireless node that can fit into tight spaces and still be battery-powered with high-capacity AA batteries. It is also useful for prototyping wireless sensor networks made of multiple nodes without taking too much table or desktop space.
